Take a break

By Tahnee Hopman

Studying can be quite a tedious experience. If your life consists of hours upon hours spent bent over a book, agonizing over facts and figures or tearing your hair over an upcoming exam, you are seriously in need of help. If you feel that you need a break from the books, and some quality time spent well away from nagging teachers, and in some cases parents, Go Holidays would be perfect place for you.

Go Holidays Private Limited is a fully owned subsidiary of United Ventures Private Limited and is the only travel agency in Sri Lanka that pays special attention to the interests of students. This works through the International Student Identity Card (ISIC). The ISIC is backed by UNESCO as an unique document for student travel and cultural exchange, as well as the only official internationally recognized proof of student status. Since 1968, the ISIC Association has maintained a close relationship with UNESCO and together they promote student travel, cultural exchange and international understanding.

Go Holidays is the only travel agency in Sri Lanka which is affiliated to STA travels – the world's largest student travel organization and ISIC. The mission of ISIC is "to promote international understanding through the promotion of travel and exchange opportunities among students, young people and the academic community."

Membership has its privileges. Through ISIC, the student gains access to, among other things, over 5000 global travel organizations dedicated to the travel needs of students, literally thousands of attractive discounts and access to the services of travel guides.

Go Holidays takes pride in making learning through travel fun, simple and affordable. Applying for a student identity card is a simple process. A student can get the ISIC by visiting the Go Holidays office and filling out a simple application. They need to bring along with them 2 stamp sized photos and proof of student status, which could be either a letter from their school or a school I.D. Card. The fee for the card is Rs. 1000/-. The issuing of the card takes approximately 10 minutes.

Since its launch in 1968, ISIC has helped over 40 million students worldwide. Any travel preference, be it studies, volunteer work or simply having a good time, the ISIC is a passport to a wide range of travel offers and benefits in 106 countries worldwide. It is a student's dream come true, in that the student is given the chance to travel to any destination with minimal inconvenience and for a nominal fee.

As of now, Go Holidays has over 25 benefit providers in and around Colombo, which include Dialog, Odel, Mango Tree and Barista. The organization continues to add to this list and provide its members with a wide range of benefits that will significantly enhance the student's travel experience.

Over 2000 students have enrolled in ISIC and they all have access to a 24-hour multilingual emergency hotline. Anyone interested in globetrotting while studying should definitely consider Go Holidays and the ISIC as their best option, as both work to complement the life of a student where studies and fun are concerned.
