Tsunami third year remembrance in Trinco

The national level third year tsunami disaster commemoration event under the auspices of Caritas Sri Lanka, is to be held on December 12 at Koneshapuri, a village located at the sixth mile post on the Trincomalee-Pulmoddai highway. Caritas Sri Lanka is affiliated to the National Secretariat for Justice, Peace and Human Development Commission of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka.

About 103 tsunami-affected families have been relocated at Koneshapuri and provided with new houses and livelihood assistance. On December 12 ten more houses are to be handed over to beneficiaries now residing in Koneshapuri, said Rev.Fr. F.X.Dias, Director, EHED Caritas, Trincomalee district at a media briefing held on Friday evening at his office.

Two Bishops, Rt.Rev. Dr.Joseph Andradi of Anuradhapura Diocese and Rt. Rev.Dr.Kingsley Swampillai of Trincomalee Diocese are scheduled to participate along with Rt.Rev.Dr. Harold Antony Perera, Chairman, National Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace, and Rev.Fr.Damien Fernando, National Director of SEDEC, Caritas Sri Lanka.

Trincomalee EHED Caritas has handed over 350 houses out of 540 to families affected by the tsunami in the coastal areas in the district.
