Jaffna – where no one dares

A daring investor is preparing to complete plans to construct the Tropical Jaffna Kool Hotel in the troubled Jaffna region by 2009. “When we are asked if this hotel will become a reality, we need not think twice to know that the conflict which has almost become second nature to this country must end,” a spokesperson for the hotel company said.

The development has been driven by veteran hotelier Prasanna Jayawardene, who conceptualised the unique Elephant Corridor and is developing more hotels of a different nature, with years of experience in managing hotels here and abroad.

The spokesperson said Vietnam and Cambodia have come into the mainstream of international tourism from far more violent and less interesting beginnings than the rich and diverse Jaffna peninsula. The small beach hotel which will be geared to future markets will highlight the hidden treasures of Jaffna in culture and tradition together with the ethnic food of the region and health and environmentally friendly practices at all levels and stages of the hotel, the spokesperson said.
