The Grassroots Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, has been working over the past three years to support projects that enrich local communities while pioneering initiatives that focus on human rights, equality and social justice issues.

The Foundation, according to a press release from the organisation, is made up of a syndicate of concerned and dedicated people ranging from members of the business community and government servants to top notch local politicians. Commenting on the service the Grassroots Foundation has rendered Zarook Marikkar, Secretary General said, “Each and every one of our members has contributed an immense amount of time and service towards reaching our goal of completing each project.”

Established as a result of a Peace Forum to end the conflict in Sri Lanka, the foundation is led by Minister Susil Premajayanth. Respect and acceptance for multi religious, multi cultural and multi racial citizens is also one of the organizations foremost ideals.

The Grassroots Foundation has completed many projects including providing clean water and sanitation to rural areas, supporting the Peace program, tsunami rehabilitation activities, building pre-schools and supporting the Women’s Livelihood Projects.
