High price for such little nutrition

The price of milk powder has once again risen tremendously creating hardship to consumers. The irony of this state is that milk powder does not contain nutritional value as people think. Much of the nutritional value is destroyed due to heat and added preservatives and it seems no doctors/health authorities recommend it, other than in ads.

Moreover, most of the developing countries including India are using fresh cow's milk. In Sri Lanka optimum advantage has been reaped by the giant milk companies once the green signal was bestowed to them by the state to increase the price by almost three times citing various excuses such as drought, world market etc.

With all this, to everyone's surprise ample stock of milk packets adorned the racks of shops and supermarkets with the new tags/prices immediately after the announcement of the price hike. One wonders how the artificial scarcity of milk food was eliminated so soon.

So stop and think whether it is really necessary to buy milk powder at this exorbitant price?
