The illustrious daughter
Of the Great Emperor
King Asoka and Queen Veedisa
Of ancient India,
The Great Theri Sanghamitta
Is ever immemorial
In the history of Lanka;
O, Great Theri, you introduced
The 'Bhikkhuni Sasana'
Or the Order of Buddhist nuns
In Lanka
Thus opening the doors
To the rights of Lankan women;
Not only that
Another priceless jewel, you brought
A sapling of the sacred
Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi of India
Now a grown tree
Venerated by Buddhists
And non-Buddhists, over the globe,
I am fortunate, to have learnt
Under your name,
Sri Lankan women ever indebted
Ever grateful to thee
Ever pay homage to thee!
On this Unduwap full moon day
Even if another Tsunami comes!
