Colombo Dockyard hands over ‘Greatship Anjali’ to Greatship (India) Ltd

The first Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTSV) built by Colombo Dockyard (CDY) for Greatship (India) Ltd (GIL) was handed over to its owners on January 2.
K.M. Sheth, Ms Jyotsna Sheth, Bharat Sheth, Ravi Sheth and members of the Sheth family and the special guest of Sheth family Ms. Kokila Ambani, Chairperson of the Reliance Group, were present on behalf of the owners whilst other dignitaries from the government and commercial establishments also participated at this momentous occasion.
A special delegation comprising of CDY senior management and the Sheth family (owners of the AHTSV) met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees on same day where the President paid a glowing tribute to the Sheth family for the confidence placed on CDY.
CDY said in a statement that this event is a historical occasion for CDY, being first of several events: the largest ship, ever undertaken to be built by CDY, the first shipbuilding project done by Sri Lankan company for an Indian client, in its contemporary history, the first Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel being built by CDY/Sri Lanka, and the first ship Hull built inside the Dry-Dock No. 2. The project, consisting of two, 80 Ton Bollard Pull Anchor handling Tug Supply Vessels with two repeat orders, has a cumulative value of around US $ 65.5 million (Rs. 7 billion).
GIL is a wholly owned subsidiary of one of India’s largest private sector shipping companies, the Great Eastern Shipping Company, who is in the business of providing offshore oil field services catering to the oil and gas E&P domain.
