Tourist attraction turned eyesore

An iron railing put in place to prevent the entry of persons to the lower portion of the sluice gate of the Kandy Lake has been vandalised enabling drug addicts among others to use the place.

The location is a tourist attraction and often visited by tourists who visit Kandy, but the place is now turning out to be an eyesore.

The presence of unauthorized persons here is also a security risk as the main road adjoining the sluice gate is used by VVIPs who visit the Malwatte temple.

A large sum of money has been spent to renovate the lake bund and redevelop the lake, but authorities have failed to ensure that the area around the sluice gate is protected.
