Helpful friend lands in court

A youth who impersonated his friend to help him after the latter had failed a medical test to obtain a driving licence, has been arrested by the Peradeniya police.

Dr. Ranjith Jayasekara, the officer attached to the national transport medical institution in Peradeniya had felt suspicious about the person and checked his identity card when it was revealed that the name was different to the name in the application.

Earlier Asanka Kumara had failed the medical test and instead has sent his friend Kumara Chandrasekara to face the test a second time. Chandrasekara was produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate Harsha Setunga and released on bail. The case will be taken up on February 7.
