SLWJA signs Colombo Declaration on Media Freedom, Social Responsibility

The Sri Lanka Working Journalists’ Association (SLWJA) signed the Colombo Declaration on Media Freedom and Social Responsibility at the SLPI headquarters recently.
The Declaration was signed by Sanath Balasooriya, presiden tof theSLWJA.
The Colombo Declaration on Media Freedom and Social Responsibilities was originally signed in 1998 by the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka, the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Free Media Movement to defend Press freedom and promote responsible journalism in the country.
The SLWJA which also participated in the deliberations and were in agreement with the contents of the statement, but did not sign the Declaration at the time.
A press release from the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) states that consequent to the signing of the Declaration, representatives of SLWJA will now be inducted to the Board of Directors of the SLPI, the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka College of Journalism together with representatives of the original constituent parties. |
