Lankan journalists awarded
diplomas at Chennai University
Twenty Sri Lankan Tamil journalists, both print and broadcast, who followed a six-month journalism programme at the SRM University, Chennai, India, were awarded their diplomas on December 15, last year, at a ceremony held at the Breez Hotel in Chennai.
The Minister of State for Textiles, E.V.K.S. Elangovan was the chief guest while Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner for India, P.M. Amza, the Director-General of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, Ranga Kalansooriya, Project Coordinator Azzam Ameen and Consultant, International Media Support of Denmark, Henrik Grunnet were also present at the ceremony.
The Best Students' Awards were won by R. Premnath, K. Gunarasa and Renuka Thuraisingham.
The journalism programme, coordinated by the Sri Lanka Press Institute with the assistance of Denmark's International Media Support, included theory and practical training with extensive internship at various media houses in Chennai.
