A Poem for the Week
The Tsunami Child
Three years have passed
Yet, no one has asked
How much I suffer,
As a child with no mother…
The Great waves carried her away
Though I searched for many a day,
In sorrow, in fright,
Hoping for a beacon of light…
No laughter, no happiness,
But a world of sad
emptiness
No clothes, books or toys,
I have nothing to enjoy…
No home of my own,
I feel so alone,
Help me to survive,
For I was,
And am,
The Tsunami Child…

My favourite Christmas food
My favourite Christmas food is Christmas Cake. I like the brown, tasty cake with white hard icing on top. Tasty plums, raisins, nuts, brandy, sugar, dried fruits and eggs are needed to make Christms cake.
You have to mix all the ingredients together and put it in the oven to bake. On Christmas time we can give Christmas cake to our friends and relatives as presents. We can have Christmas cake for tea and as a dessert.
I like to eat Christmas cake everyday.

The best gift
I have given
My grandmother's birthday is on Christmas day. Though we are Buddhists we celebrate the day. All my uncles and aunts come with a present to give her.
In 2005, I thought I should give her a present. I borrowed an origami book and studied how to make things like fish, boats, etc. I made some fish, boats, plants and birds, using coloured paper and chocolate and toffee wrappers. I made a broken ship too. I decorated it with pearls and sequins.
When I gave it to my grandmother she was very pleased. She covered it with polythene and hung it where she could see it from her bed. Later she had asked my mother to bury it with her.
Then only I realized that it was the best gift I have ever given.

Highlights of the school year 2007
In my school, a lot of co-curricular activities were carried out throughout the year 2007.
Holding the maiden Inter-House Sportsmeet was a memorable occasion for us. There was a very colourful display by the kids, on the Kiddies Day. The Activity Day was a good chance to show our skills in handicraft, drawing, writing, etc.
We had sil campaigns and sermons for Buddhists on Poya days. There were Meelad Day celebrations for Muslims, a Mass ceremony for Christians, a Vesak illumination programme and Bakthi Gee programme on Poson Poya day. Field trips and annual students trips had been organized in terms of socialization. I can't forget the New Year celebrations too. We also celebrated Children's Day and Teachers Day. On September 13, we celebrated our school birthday, with an alms giving. On that day we marched in a parade holding posters, blessing the war heroes of our motherland. The annual Prize Giving was another memorable occasion for us. The year 2007 ended with a grand concert, 'Multi Talent.'
I would like to extend my gratitude and pay tribute to the Principal and teachers who have committed themselves to promote our school.
