Book Buzz is back!

The Book Buzz series is back presenting acclaimed British writers Sophie Hannah, Louise Dean and Susan Elderkin and award winning Sri Lankan writer Sumathy Sivamohan.

The Book Buzz will be held in Kandy on Saturday, January 19 at 5 p.m. at the British Council and will feature Sophie Hannah and Sumathy Sivamohan. In Colombo it will be on Tuesday, January 22 at 5.30 p.m. at the British Council hall, with Sophie Hannah, Louise Dean and Susan Elderkin as the featured writers.

Sophie Hannah is a successful poet and novelist who regularly performs her work both in the UK and abroad. She has won awards for her short stories and poetry, including first prize in the 2004 Daphne Du Maurier Festival Short Story Competition. Sophie is the author of several novels including Gripless, Cordial and Corrosive, The Superpower of Love etc.

Dr. Sumathy Sivamohan won the Gratiaen Prize for English Literature for 2001 for her play Thin Veils. She has performed widely internationally to appreciative audiences. She has also moved into the world of film in recent times, and has directed two short films: Piralayam (2005) and Oranges (2006).

Louise Dean is one of Britain’s most up and coming authors. Her first novel, Becoming Strangers, won the Betty Trask Award for Best First Novel, was nominated for the Guardian First Book Award and long-listed for the Man Booker. Susan Elderkin is a novelist and travel writer who was named by Granta in 2003 as ‘one of the best young British novelists’. Her first novel, Sunset over Chocolate Mountains, won the Betty Trask award and is currently being adapted for film. Her novel The Voices was short-listed for the Ondaatje prize for books.
