Ifran guides Isipathana to maidenwin

Right hand batsman Ifran Ismail’s unbeaten knock of 65 inclusive of five boundaries and two sixes skyrocketed Isipathana to a six wicket win over Lumbini MV in their Under 20 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at the BRC grounds yesterday. Isipathana set a challenging target of 137 in just 17 overs achieved it in the last ball of the match with the winning hit coming off the bat of from Ismail. Earlier in the day Isipathana cut their path to victory by resuming from their overnight score of 101 for 3 and reached 203 for 6 in reply to Lumbini’s score of 128 before making a declaration after one hour of batting with Amira Rabel making an unbeaten 67.

Rain prevented play for some time in the first session of play after lunch with Lumbini MV on 110 for 4.

But when play resumed Isipathana spearheaded by right arm off spinner Chameera Waduge who ended with top figures of 5 for 79 they made some headway. Stiff resistance came in the form of half tons from Chathuranga Prabath and Mohamed Aslam but Lumbini made a bold declaration with the score on 210 for 9 leaving Isipathana a target 137 at the rate of eight runs an over for victory.

The Under 20 inter-school cricket match between S. Thomas’ and St Benedict’s concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday ended in a tame draw.

Dimuthu and Harin stars in drawn game
Rain prevented play after tea on the second day in the inter-school cricket match between St Joseph’s and Wesley played at Darley Road. The highlight of the match was an unbeaten 129 by Dimuth Karunaratne and twin half tons by Harin Silva. Wesley set a target of 200 for victory was unable to face a ball due to heavy rain.

Rain stops play
The inter-school cricket encounter between St Sebastian’s and St Peter’s played at Moratuwa was called off at 2.30 p.m. due to heavy rain. Play was not possible after the dismissal of St Peter’s for 182.
