Not guilty plea to alleged assault on cop
The case of a suspect who pleaded not guilty to four charges including assault of a police officer, was postponed to June 2 by the Kandy Chief Magistrate for r e-hearing.
The accused from Ampitiya was charged with damaging the police officer’s cap, causing disturbance to duty and criminal harassment with an assault charge, to all of which he pleaded not guilty.

given bail
A man who had allegedly assaulted his wife in the heart of Kandy town injuring her in the process, was granted personal bail in Rs. 100,000, and the case postponed for June 2 by Kandy Chief Magistrate S Premachandra.
The accused is a man from Heerassagala.
Court was told that the couple had separated after a short period and when the two had met in Kandy later an incident had occurred where the man had assaulted her.
Sgt D J Dissanayake of the Kandy’s Women and Children unit led evidence in court. The magistrate warned the man in open court of severe consequences if he came back to court with a similar charge later after being released on bail.
Alleged rapist remanded for giving false name
A man charged for an alleged rape was remanded for 14 days by the Kandy Chief Magistrate after Kadugannawa police told court that the man had given a false name and address when taken into custody.Investigations revealed his real name and address. The accused was a father of two living in the Mawanella area.
Police asked court for a remand order as the alleged rape victim was undergoing investigations in the Kandy hospital.
The magistrate ordered the man to be remanded and a medical report on the victim be forwarded to court on the day the accused was to appear.
