Businessman abducted and released

A businessman abducted in Wellawatte on Tuesday night by six persons clad in military uniform, was blindfolded and released at Wattala last morning after he was severely assaulted, police said.

Businessman Sinniah Sellaiah (48), owner of Mysoor Café, Wellawatte was taken away by them in a white van while he was at his hotel, family members said.

Despite his telling the abductors that he hailed from the upcountry and showing his identity card, he was taken away by them stating that he had to be interrogated, they said. He is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital, the family members said.
