Key issues on company, banking and labour at corporate lawyers parley

The Association of Corporate Lawyers Sri Lanka is holding its annual Corporate Law Conference 2008 at the Colombo Hilton on February 28 with the Chief Justice Sarath Silva as the chief guest.

The technical sessions of this year’s conference will focus on Company, Banking and Labour laws, the association said in a press release.

The Company Law session will deliberate Board Room balancing act vis-à-vis the new UK companies act, and post implication issues of the new companies act. This session will be chaired by Justice Saleem Marsoof with the speakers being Kevin Bampton, Head of the School of Law and Criminology University of Derby, K Kanag-Iswaran, President's Counsel and Aritta Wickramanayake, Senior Partner, Nithya Partners.

Dr Harsha Cabral, President's Counsel, D. K. Hettiarachchi, Registrar of Companies and Ms Sriyangani Fernando, Additional Legal Draftsman, Legal Draftsman's Department will join in as panellists.

The session on Banking Law will focus on the areas of “Banking Regulatory Requirements or a sound Baking System in Sri Lanka and Recent developments in Banking Law. This session will be chaired by Thusantha Wijemanna, Senior Vice President: General Counsel, DFCC Bank with the speakers being Romesh De Silva, President's Counsel, Dappula de Livera, Deputy Solicitor General and Ms Yvette Fernando, Deputy Director Bank Supervision Division, Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The Session on Labour Law will focus on the subject of Current Legal and Regulatory trends.

The speakers are Ajantha Atukorale, Kanishka Weerasinghe, Deputy Director General - Employers Federation of Ceylon.

Dinesh Weerakkody Managing Director, Cornucopia Lanka Ltd will speak on the concept of Variable Pay in the context of HR development.
