A Poem for the Week

The awesome rainforest

The sunrise is as nice as a diamond so bright,
And the rainforest is filled with golden sunlight,
Raindrops on trees are as white as snow,
The grass on the ground looks green below.

The sky starts to look as blue as the sea,
Animals are active like a
little busy bee,
The monkeys' are as funny as clowns,
Butterflies look like pretty little gowns.

The treetops are green like icing on the cake,
The creepers in them look as long as a snake,
Worms are crawling as slow as snails,
Wolves are howling, wagging their tails.

An interesting exhibition

The most interesting exhibition I've been to is the Children's Arts & Crafts Exhibition held at the BMICH. It gave ample opportunities for children to exhibit their hidden talents.

The exhibition had several sections. I first entered the mask section where many children wearing masks welcomed us. This section was really fabulous as we could buy normal masks and paint them according to our wish. The creations of several children were excellent.

My mother next took me to a hall where there was a special plant called Bonsai. A short talk was made about this plant and eventually a quiz was held. I was one of the lucky winners who received awards.

Then in the art section there were sketches of birds, animals and fish. The young were busy drawing and colouring pictures. The best were given awards. I too drew a dinosaur but didn't receive any award as there was tough competition among talented young artists.

The final section was the food still filled with tempting food stuff. Fascinating decorations of animals and flowers were made using fruits and vegetables.

Overall this exhibition was an excellent one. It was both entertaining and knowledgeable. I hope another exhibition like this would be held again in the future.

How I spent the last Poya holiday

Duruthu Full Moon Poya Day happened to be my father's mother's 20th death anniversary. So my grandfather organized a dhane at the Sangamittaramaya Temple. My father, mother, my grandparents on my mother's side, my grandfather, Varuna Bappa, Amali Nanda and my cousin Thenuri went.

As Thinuri and I walked around, we saw beautiful verses on little boards in various places. A Buddhist monk preached bana in the buduge. After that, we served food to the Silmanivaru. We looked over the gate and saw a paddy field. When the dhane was over the silmanivaru thanked us.
