You can now take the Ramboda tunnel

President Rajapaksa along with Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and other officials at the opening ceremony

Sri Lanka’s longest road tunnel, the Ramboda tunnel was opened yesterday by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a day ahead of the scheduled opening. The 225 metre-long tunnel which has been constructed preserving the scenic beauty of the surrounding environment is an alternative to Ramboda Pass.

This project was funded by the Government of Japan under its Official Development Assistance (ODA) Loan scheme under which Rs. 3.1 billion was provided for the construction of the Ramboda tunnel and the rehabilitation of two road networks in the Central Province.

Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Minister of Highways and Road Development and Kiyoshi Araki, Ambassador of Japan were present at the opening ceremony along with other government officials and local community representatives. The Ramboda Tunnel was due to be opened to the public today.
