Fined for selling spurious CDs

A person who had sold unauthorized CDs and VCDs at the Colombo Public Library auditorium was fined Rs. 500,000 and given a five years’ suspended sentence by Maligakanda Magistrate Chrishanthi Dodangoda.

The case was filed by the Dematagoda police against M.S. Dharmapala of Padukka who had sold unauthorized CDs and VCDs sponsored by Sajindra Audio and Video Producers of well-known artistes such as Sunil Ariyaratne, the late Mahagama Sekera and Nanda Malini. The magistrate imposed the sentence on the accused for having breached the Intellectual Property Act.
