Design Group Five gets special SLIA award

The Council of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) at its recent annual sessions conferred a special award for the contribution to the profession or architecture to The Design Group Five International (Pvt) Ltd (DG5I) who have recently completed 35 years of active practice in Sri Lanka.

This was the first occasion the Institute conferred an award of this nature to a consultancy practice. “This award is dedicated to all those who have been with DG5I through the years and to our present staff. We feel that this award further consolidates DG5Is belief that teamwork is the best approach to successful and innovative architectural solutions,” said Suranjith de Silva, Chairman of DG5I, upon accepting the award, according to a statement issued by the company.

Since its inception in 1972, DG5I has had several directors as well as other professionals in the sector, including Engineers and Quantity Surveyors. Suranjith De Silva, the current Chairman/Managing Director has been the MD since 1984, the year the DG5I changed to a limited liability company. Rohitha Peiris and H.D. Nandasena are the two other long serving Directors of the practice.

DG5I says it has forged a reputation for the wealth of architectural, real estate and project management expertise they bring to each project. These combined strengths cover a variety of skills, including the technical aspects of design and engineering and the logistical planning behind project management.

These rich qualities manifest themselves in the impressive variety of buildings which the group has undertaken in the past 35 years. DG5I has always had the professional tools and personnel to offer a wide range of services, from religious buildings to luxury apartments, the statement said.
