Beneath the lanterns VERTISTMENTS
Over 2,500 years ago on a full moon day during the month of Vesak under a Bo tree, Siddhartha Gautama became the Enlightened One."The birth and enlightenment of Lord Buddha are the two most remarkable events," says Prof. Dhammavihari Thero, who believes that celebrating the birth of a great leader, be it Lord Buddha or Jesus Christ means the celebration of the message they gave to society and reflecting on its importance to mankind.
Intrigue and romance - Film Review
The Tudors are very chic at the moment. If it isn't Elizabeth: The Golden Age or the television series, The Tudors, then it is The Other Boleyn Girl, the latest film written by Oscar nominated screenwriter, Peter Morgan. After his work on the Golden Globe winning TV film Longford and the Oscar winning (for its lead actors) The Queen and The Last King of Scotland, his scripts must be in demand by actors across the globe. Little wonder then that his venture attracted a stellar cast, including Eric Bana, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman.
Awareness with a twist
Being forced to shift the venue of an event 12 hours before it begins would be any organiser's nightmare. It is almost unbelievable, but it did happen. After weeks and months of non stop preparation, the venue for the all important event had to be changed. The event was a massive AIDS awareness campaign, organised by Save Lanka Kids. When complications arose with regard to the location chosen, the organisers had no choice but to shift from Hikkaduwa to the Devata area in Galle.
