Trinity College goes to court in land dispute

A valuable piece of land, which Trinity College, Kandy, claims belongs to the school, is the subject of a case of alleged cheating that came up for hearing in court last week before High Court Judge D. S. C. Lekamwasam. A charge of cheating has been preferred against R. M. Tilak Kumar Udugama regarding the property, known as Jambugaha Kumbura.

In dispute is a declaratory deed relating to the property allegedly drawn up by the accused. Testifying in court, a Kandy-based lawyer said he had examined the deed at the time of the transaction and had in good faith attested the deed. The case was postponed for July 9, 2008. Attorney-at-law Kithsiri Seneviratne apeared for Trinity College, the aggrieved party.
