Bush fire in Opanayaka, Ratnapura

A bush fire destroyed more than two and half acres of forest in the Hunuwala area, Opanayaka in the Ratnapura district today afternoon, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Sabaragamuwa Province, Upali Hewage said.

The cause of the fire was not knownn immediately and more than three hours were taken to control the fire, he said.

Persons living close by had been told to vacate their homes.

However, there was no damage to houses or persons.
