Suicide attack in Vavuniya - one civilian killed, 9 injured

One civilian was killed and nine others were injured in a LTTE suicide bombing in Vavuniya a short while ago, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
A suicide bomber on a bicycle had rammed into a threewheeler carrying three police constables and one woman police constable. The four constables and the driver of the threewheeler were injured in the attack, but the threewheeler driver succumbed to his injuries later.
Two army soldiers and one female soldier at an army checkpoint in the vicinity and two more civilians were also injured in the blast, Brig. Nanayakkara said.
The attack took place at 3.30 this evening at Second Lane in the Vavuniya Town near the main bus stand. |
