PBJ to appear before the Supreme Court today

Former Treasury Secretary Dr.P.B. Jayasundera is expected to appear in the Supreme Court this morning (Wednesday) and explain to court whether or not he is still a public officer as defined in the Constitution, court officials said.

The case in question is the privatisation of Lanka Marine Services Ltd (LMSL) which was overturned by the court in July saying it was a corrupt deal which gave unfair advantage to one party (John Keells Holdings-JKH). The case has proceeded since then as the petitioners have raised issue over the alleged non-compliance of the court’s order by various agencies of the government to proceed with inquiries in line with the verdict.

When the case came up last week, the court was told that Dr Jayasundera, though resigning as Treasury Secretary, still continued to hold public office in his capacity as Chairman of SriLankan Airlines and as an advisor to the President.
