Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva on Wednesday drew reference to the umpire on the sports field in reprimanding former Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera for not stepping down immediately from office after being implicated in a fraudulent deal.

“You don’t have to wait until the umpire orders you to go after ruling you out. Compliance with the judgment should be substantial, not theoretical,” he told Dr Jayasundera and ordered him to apologise in court. The once-powerful public official then apologised to the court..
