CHENNAI: Three more DMK Rajya Sabha members have handed in their resignation letters to party president M Karunanidhi, the Times of India said.
The move came in keeping with an all-party resolution adopted on October 14.
About 20 Tamil Nadu political parties including the DMK and the Communist Party, gave the central government two weeks’ ultimatum to enforce a ceasefire in Sri Lanka’s conflict. The parties warned that their members in the national legislature would resign if the government failed to take steps to ensure the safety of Sri Lankan Tamils caught up in the war.
Tiruchi N Siva, A A Jinnah and Vasanthi Stanley last night submitted their resignation letters dated October 29 to Karunanidhi for forwarding the same to Rajya Sabha Chairman at an appropriate time, party sources said today.
With their resignation, all four Rajya Sabha members of DMK had given their resignation papers to Karunanidhi. Kanimozhi, daughter of Karunanidhi, handed over her post-dated resignation letter to Karunanidhi on Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu’s Congress unit, which also took part in the all-party meeting, appears to be in a quandary over the resolution as it could take a decision on resignation of its MPs only with the permission of the party high command. |
