PBJ appears in court in LMSL case
2008-10-20 17:50:34

Former Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera made his second appearance in the Supreme Court on Monday regarding the Lanka Marine Services Ltd (LMSL) judgment, this time to submit an affidavit swearing that he does not hold any public office or hold shares in any companies in which the government of Sri Lanka has a direct or indirect interest in.

Dr. Jayasundera did not address the Court directly nor did he publicly apologize to the Court as he was ordered to do during his 8 October appearance for having continued as Treasury Secretary, months after the judgment was handed down stating he was unfit to hold public office.

During the proceedings, Counsel for the petitioner, attorney M.A. Sumanthiran brought to the attention of the court, headed by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva that Dr. Jayasundera had failed to include some annexures in his affidavit, namely the letters he had written to various individuals regarding his resignation as Treasury Secretary. The Supreme Court found that once the annexures are submitted, the affidavit will be accepted by the court. Furthermore, the final order will be given on December 15. -Ends-
