The following are some of the main allocations for various programmes which the government hopes to implement in 2009.
Monthly allowance of Rs. 200 for children between ages 1 to 5 in Samurdhi and low income families
Rs. 150 million to set up plant nurseries
Rs. 50 million to preserve natural habitats in selected villages such as Dambana
Rs. 950 million to construct electric fences to prevent human-elephant conflict
Rs. 150 million for simplifying administrative procedures
Rs. 100 million for the Mathata Thitha programme and protection of milking cows
Rs. 300 million for training for rural youth in international sport
Rs. 6 billion for Mihin Lanka Airlines and Weerawila Airport
Allocation of Rs. 950 million to improve Rajarata, Wayamba, Sabaragamuwa, Uwa Wellassa, Nothern, South Eastern and Jaffna universities
Rs. 100 million to conduct a 50 year commemoration of the Vidyodaya and Vidyalankara universities
Rs. 100 million for the e-village programme
Rs. 300 million to expand national research programmes
Rs. 350 million to improve health facilities in remote areas
Rs. 100 million for research related work in indigenous medicine
> Rs. 350 million to develop One Village, One Crop concept
Rs. 500 million to develop the Export Development Board
Rs. 100 million to develop selected villages as tourist villages
Rs. 100 million to develop Galle city
Rs. 3.5 billion to develop the Ranaviru Gammanaya, dedicated for soldiers
Additional allocations of Rs. 3 billion for the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” Programme to rebuild the north
Concessions for foreign exchange earnings – fuel adjustment levy charged by CEB to be reduced to 15% for one year for tourist hotels and industries, furnace oil used for industrial purposes reduced to Rs. 55 per litre. Loan repayments of industries earning foreign exchange and retaining employees at current level to be differed by six months, Rs. 1 billion to provide financial intensives to exporters to assist finding new markets. |
