A deputy minister in the Puttalam district has allegedly prevented the police taking into custody a man involved in the assault of a private bus driver prompting strike by bus operators between Puttalam and Colombo, officials said.
A man involved in the assault of the driver on Sunday was due to be taken into custody on Monday, but a Sub Inspector had allegedly been told by the politician to refrain from arresting the suspect. As a result the arrest was not made on Monday.
As a mark of protest all private buses operating between Puttalam and Colombo have suspended their services, inconveniencing the public.. |
