LTTE first FDL at Muhamalai falls: Defence Ministry

Troops have overrun the LTTE's first Forward Defence Line (FDL) in Muhamalai and Kilaly today morning, the Defence Ministry said.

The Defence ministry said “scores of LTTE cadres” were killed in the gun battle.

But there were no repots of any military casualties.

Troops have made their tactical advances minimizing casualties as LTTE were making their fullest strength to protect strategically important defence line in Muhamalai and Kilaly, the Defence ministry added.

The LTTE have constructed an earth bund just ahead of their defence line from Nagarkovil to Kilaly, both north and south to the A-9, Jaffna - Kandy main road.

Two LTTE mortar launchers have been destroyed while another two partially damaged in security forces' artillery attack. LTTE vehicles carrying reinforcement were also targeted and LTTE ground commanders were totally disordered due to the effective offensive thrust launched by the troops, the Defence ministry added..
