Mi24 attack helicpoters destroyed an LTTE strong point in Akkarayankulam offering heavy resistance to the 57 Division advance today, Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said.

Ground troops had confirmed that the target was destroyed, he said.

The attack was carried out at 2.45 this afternoon 7km North East of Akkarayankulam, Wing Commander Nanayakkara said.

High casualties and damages are expected, he added. .
