The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka, popularly known as AATSL, the largest body of Middle Level Accountants in Sri Lanka, conducts for the second time, the All Island Creative Writing Contest as one of its annual CSR Projects. This year the topic was "Sri Lanka to be a Place of Knowledge and Skills".
A large number of students throughout the Island participated in the First Round of the Contest conducted in all three media on the above topic.
From thousands of Creative Essays, 25 best essays from each medium Sinhala, Tamil and English were selected and the Final Round Test was conducted on May 2, 2009 at Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala Auditorium of the AATSL with the participation of all 75 selected students. The Awarding Ceremony of the Contest is scheduled to be held in July this year.
AATSL will present six awards including Cash Prizes for each of the winners in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. All the 18 prize winners will also be awarded with Scholarships to follow all three levels of AATSL examinations free of charge. The best 75 essays will be awarded with Certificates of Merit.
AATSL conducts this Creative Writing Contest with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The Participants are from schools and among G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E. (A/L) Students island-wide. The Contest is conducted in all the three media Sinhala, Tamil and English and designed to kindle the interests of students to pursue knowledge in fields outside their classroom studies, and to inculcate creative ability in students.
The AATSL inaugurated this Creative Writing Contest in the year 2007, to mark its 20th anniversary. The ceremony to award prizes to winners was held with the participation of Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education as Chief Guest. It should also be noted that the Students from all parts of the country responded well to make the event a success.
The Governing Council of AATSL had then decided to continue this contest as a project to discharge its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The contest has now become very popular among school children and parents.
It should be mentioned that being a premier Accountancy body, AATSL provides the best opportunity for G.C.E. (O/L) and (A/L) students to pursue higher education or to become Professional Accountants and to make their future brighter.
Wijaya Newspapers Limited extended its cooperation as Exclusive Print Media Sponsors to make this Contest a great success.
