Easy win for Kingswood |
By Aubrey Kuruppu |
Kingswood chalked up their third fifty plus tally in a row as they drubbed Dharmarajah by 55 points (five goals and four tries) to 3 (one penalty) at Bogambara to retain the William Weerasinghe Memorial Trophy.
Skipper Roshan Weeraratne was his usual brilliant self, scoring two tries (one an interception) while Sansoni performed his trade mark 70 metre run to score one of his two tries. Winger Fazal and Aphzal also touched down twice each. D. M. Wijesinghe got the other for the winners.
The two king-pins (Weeratne and Sansoni) converted five tries. De Silva Wickramanayake got the loser’s solitary points.
Though the score line suggested one way traffic, it was not so. Especially in second half, the Rajans ran fast and tenaciously at the defense – but it held. Rajans Skipper Dharshana Alipka made three brilliant breaks, but lacked support. Dharmarajah also attempted two drop goals, one needlessly and the other awfully. The winners led 17 nil at lemons.
