Kingswood fell from their lofty standards even though they defeated the Anthonians by 40 points (5 goals, 1 try) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try) at Bogambara yesterday. This wasn’t the same battered and bruised Anthonian side of a couple of weeks before. They certainly gave the champions a spirited, rousing game and in the process exposed a few chinks in their defence.
Not for the first time, Roshan Weeraratne played a stellar role. His effort in the first half when he ran across, dummied a pass for Perera to score was a thing of beauty. Besides scoring twice, he also converted five tries.
There was some rain earlier and conditions were con conducive to the hosts’ run andpass game.
Besides Weeraratne;s two efforts, Prabath Jayalath, Krishantha Asela, M.N. Perera and M. Fazli touched down.
For the Anthonians who got their tries either side of the break, Rajaguru and Peiris went over. Tharanga Bandara converted the first.
Referee: Pradeep Fernando.
