Popular band ‘Jayasri’, based in Vienna, Austria will be in town tomorrow for the festive season.
‘Coming home is an annual event but this year will be totally different’ said leader Rohitha.
Jayasri, for the very first time, will be in action with their full band during the height of the festive season.
‘We have never performed with full strength in Sri Lanka and this year will be special. Our maiden concert with all members is no longer a dre am’ he added.
The boys will be in action during Christmas and New Year period and have planned a couple of concerts out of Colombo too.
Jayasri will be in Sri Lanka till January 25 before leaving for mega Spring festival in Vienna in March.
It was a hectic Summer and Fall season for them during the last five months.
They were seen in action at ‘Lakbimai-Obai-Apai’, a mega concert organized by SLCC and Sri Lankans living in Vienna on October 17.
‘Most of the Sri Lankan musicians living in Austria and as well as all over Europe were gathered to perform at this concert’ Rohitha said.
They have performed many Summer Festivals and music Concerts across Europe during the Summer.
‘Africult Festival’ with many international African bands and acts was outstanding for Jayasri. They played mainly Reggae and Afro rhythm at this festival.
According to Rohitha, who specially wrote to TV Times, ‘Reggae Open air’ in Ebreichsdorf, ‘Reggaejam 2009’ in Reinsberg Burg Arena, Fest der Begegnung open air in St. Polten were some of the big events with more international bands
‘Taking a main stage in Slovenia’s biggest festival, LENT International, Music Festival in Maribor July 9 was a great experience. That was our very first performance in Slovenia’ he said.
This annual multicultural 16 day Festival transforms the city of Maribor into a small world of its own. A variety of more than 400 performances including concerts of classical, jazz, rock, reggae, pop and world music; and more than a million of visitors from all over make it one of the biggest festivals in Europe. Festival LENT, which has its origins in the folklore festival Folkart, has received numerous awards, including 40 awards from the prestigious International Festival and Events Association (IFEA).
‘To date, many internationally acknowledged musicians have performed at Festival Lent. Along the banks of the river Drava, stars such as Ray Charles, B. B. King, James Brown, Jose Feliciano, Marcio Parker, Living Color, Solomon Burke, Keziah Jones, Cubanisimo. Among them Jayasri name came into limelight this year. We are simply proud’ he said.
‘Jayasri Peace Tour 2009’ continued to Italy Milano for the first time on an Open Air Concert organized by Sri Lankans in Campo Camarown to Germany and back to Austria before we took wing to our beloved motherland’ Rohitha added.
Sri Lanka scheduled of the band will be announced soon and they promised their fans would be in for a surprise. |
