Five outstanding artistes from fields of theatre, music and cinema have been honoured with 16th Bunka Cultural awards organized by the Japan Sri Lanka Friendship Cultural Fund recently.
The prestigious award was given to actor and dramatist Prasannajith Abeysuriya, musicians Abdul Rahim Noorul Ameerkhan, Lakshman Joseph de Saram, Kasun Kalhara Jayawardena and award winning actress Jayani Senanayake who also became the Best Actress at the recently concluded State Drama Festival.
At the presentation, special guest performance by the Sri Lanka-Japan joint String Quartet featuring Lanakn and Japanese musicians including Ananda Dabare (violin), Satish Casie Chetty (violin), Shogo Kanamori (Viola) and Shinichi Murata (viloloncello) entertained the audience with some fabulous Western and Japanese music.
For the past fifteen years 88 such awards have been presented to mid-career individuals and organizations on the basis of their creative activities in culture and the arts, in order to encourage and promote individual and collective talents in these fields in Sri Lanka.
The Bunka awards are presented annually on the initiative of the Japanese Solidarity Association and the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan. |
