Tiger arms unearthed on tip-off

By Shelton Hettiaratchi

For the second time within two months Nuwara Eliya police were able, on a tip-off, to track down some LTTE arms in seven areas including in the Vellamullivaikkal and Karaiyamullivaikkal areas in the Mullaitivu district.

This equipment is believed to have been hidden by the LTTE to be used when required. The search team was led by SSP Gamini Navaratne and DIG Jayantha Gammanpila. SSP Gamini Maturata and IP Kamal Ranaweera too joined the team in the search.

This equipment was said to be of a special type while high explosives too were found hidden with some bullet packs, still unopened, all buried underground. Police are to produce the findings before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.
