Tsunami wins Best Film at Moonwhite film Fest in India
View(s):Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake’s latest film ‘Tsunami’ won the Best Director award at the recently held Moonwhite Films International Film Festival at Mumbai in India. The film competed at the Feature Film International section along with large number of movies countries like India, France, Georgia, the United States Spain, Singapore, Denmark and Italy. The film was also nominated for the Best Film award.
With the latest award, so far ‘Tsunami’ has won seven international film awards. Last month the film also won Special Jury Mention at the Rainbow Film Festival in England. Started on October 18, the festival was ended on October 25.Earlier Dr. Dissanayake’s film ‘Bindu’ (2010) and ‘Siri Perakum’ (2014) competed at the festival. Among the other Sri Lankan films that represented the country at previous years were Prasanna Vithanage’s‘Ira Mediyama’ (August Sun), Sudath Devapriya’s ‘Uduganyamaya’ and Prasanna Jayakody’s ‘Sankara’.
In October the film was also nominated for several awards at the Byelsa International Film Festival in Yonago, Nigeria. The film was nominated for seven awards including the Best Director, the Best Producer, the Best cinematography, the Best Actress, the Best Actor, the Best Supporting Actor and the Best child artiste. In addition, Himali Sayurangiwas nominated for Bayelsa International Film Festival’s Viewers’ Choice Award for the Best Actress.

Won his first international film award in 2000 for his debut “Saroja”, Dr. Dissanayake has won 36 international awards at various international film festivals around the world.
