Kandy gets beautiful walkway through Councillor’s efforts
A drab sidewalk along the Kandy-Matale railway line is to be made a promenade that would enhance the area, due to a move by a Kandy Municipal Councillor. She is also an official of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Ms Anoma Ellegedara is a newcomer to politics who made her way into the Council during the last elections. Her attempts to make Kandy beautiful includes investing Rs 1,200,000 on this particular project.
Kandy City is moving towards high pollution levels with heavy traffic, and the levels of fumes emitted from vehicles have increased. The Kandy municipality is finding ways and means in the midst of the present health situation as to how best it could retain fresh air for those who travel on foot.
With this allocation, Council Member Ellegedara has launched the first project to beautify the ‘walk’ leading from the clock tower bus stand towards the Kandy Post Office, passing the Telecom Office, by installing a green cover with creepers, providing shade for the long walk and also adorning the sidewalk with flowers.
In addition, the project also proposes to send vines along with the trees so that the drabness of the vacant area would be filled with creepers and flowers.
This project was inaugurated on Poson Day.
This manner of beautifying Kandy has not been undertaken in this fashion from the allocation of members previously.
