Spa Ceylon expands on wellness drive
View(s):Few consumer goods industries have experienced the type of explosive growth like Spa Ceylon which is aggressively embracing its global expansion, counting 105 branded stores and shop-in-shop outlets in Europe, Asia, and Africa while plans are on to branch out to the US in two years.
“We have noticed that all over the world people are more interested in holistic living than two years ago. They realise the value of wellbeing when compared to before the pandemic. This is one of the reasons we are expanding,” co-founder Shalin Balasuriya told the Business Times.
He said a store in Saudi Arabia will be open within the next month as well as the sixth store in Japan. “We opened a store in Hong Kong and last month a second store in South Africa was also opened,” Mr. Balasuriya added noting that the US expansion is slated within the next two years. He also said that Ayurveda, the science of longevity and self-actualisation, and Ayurvedic products have gathered much steam in the last 18 months. The growing interest in herbal and traditional ingredients across all consumer segments and higher scrutiny of product labels are popularising Spa Ceylon products, he said.
Spa Ceylon stores are now situated in more than 50 cities in 20 countries, spanning four continents of the world with Europe’s stores in Russia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Ukraine, 40 specialty wellness retail locations in Austria with retail operations in the Netherlands, Norway, Greece, and Lithuania. He said the stores are local partners in the respective countries.
Stores in Seoul, Korea, across Malaysia, and Melbourne are doing well, Mr. Balasuriya added. Spa Ceylon operates in India, Pakistan, the Maldives, and 37 stores across Sri Lanka.
