Former Senior Editor Elmo Gunaratna passed away yesterday at the age of 89. He served in journalism for six decades.

A past pupil of Ananda College, Colombo, he started his career at the “Sinhalaya” newspaper before joining Lake House publications. He later worked as a Senior Adviser to the Education, Transport and Samurdhi and Sports Ministries. His wife, Nandra Dias Gunaratna, predeceased him. He is survived by sons Harsha, Thushara and Rajeeva Gunaratne and several grandchildren. His son, Damitha, also passed away this week.
