Heathrow airport row hits SLA flts
SriLankan Airlines has been compelled to cancel a few flights to London’s Heathrow airport in the wake of a labour shortage there.
Two flights from Colombo to London and two flights – London to Colombo have been cancelled since the last three weeks, SriLankan Airlines Corporate Communications Manager Deepal Perera told the Business Times. The airline normally operates one daily flight from Colombo to London.
As a result of these cancellations, he noted that they would be refunding the passengers for their cancelled flights and accommodating them on another flight.
Meanwhile, Emirates Airline had called a UK request for flights cuts to London as “entirely unreasonable and unacceptable” and had rejected the demand to carry out capacity cuts.
In a subsequent joint statement with Heathrow Airport the airline had stated that following a constructive meeting “Emirates agreed the airline was ready and willing to work with the airport to remediate the situation over the next two weeks, to keep demand and capacity in balance”.
Due to the fuel crisis, SriLankan Airlines refuels its planes in India’s Chennai and Cochin airports, Mr. Perera said.
