A historic temple located in Giriulla is getting attention again with a Buddha statue measuring 126 ft to be built on the top of a mountain in the temple premises.
A moonstone (sandakada pahana) and a Dragon Gate (makara thorana) will also be constructed. The chief incumbent of the historic Meddepola Temple, Ven Mirihane Dhammapala Thero, is prepared to build the largest reclining Buddha statue. The temple once received the patronage of King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe (1747-1782), who had gifted the temple with the land of Malgamuwa.
