One dead, two girls missing after fishing boat carrying 8 capsizes
View(s):The body of a 10-year-old girl was recovered while a search operation continued last evening to look for two other girls who went missing after the boat they were in capsized in Mahawelikada Ara tank in Sooriyawewa.
The fishing boat had been carrying a group of eight when it capsized last afternoon. Five people including an eight-month-old infant were rescued by area residents and admitted to hospital. However, three girls aged between 10 and 18 had gone missing after the incident.
Police believe the boat was too small to accommodate eight people.
Police and navy divers were searching the tank last evening to locate the missing girls.
