Host Zahira retain Super 16 Soccer 7s
View(s):Hosts Zahira College beat Darussalaam College to retain the Zahira Super 16 Soccer 7s Tournament 2022, worked off at the Racecourse ground in Colombo last weekend. B.M.M. Zuhaib of Darussalam College was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament while Mohamed Shahil of Zahira was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament for his prolific contribution to the team. Zahira’s M.H.M. Hafeel emerged the Player of the Final.
Due to the present situation in the country, the organising committee decided to invite schools only from the Western province, as 16 leading football playing schools from the region were part of this tournament where youngsters got the opportunity to showpiece their talent on a larger scale.
The 16 teams that participated were Al-Hikma College, Colombo, Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, Alethea International School, Maris Stella College, Negombo, Royal College, De Mazenod College, Kandana, S. Thomas’ College, D.S. Senanayake College, St. Benedict’s College, Gateway College, St. Joseph’s College, Hindu College, Wesley College, Isipathana College, finalists Darussalaam College, Colombo, and hosts and eventual winners Zahira College.
By organising this annual event uninterrupted, the Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College expects to provide the youngsters opportunities to perform and catch the eyes of the national authorities. This tournament was officiated by experts in local and foreign football who were recommended by the Educational Ministry and the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
Among the sponsors who has come forward to support the tournament are Deedat, Trainocate, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Al-Falaah, Alternate Financial Service of LOLC Finance, ThePapare.com, Royal Biriyani and BBQ, Ikram Studio, Aqua Fresh Natural, A Brand Wooden Flooring, Leeban Interiors, Smart Biz Consortium, Sports World, FONO Technologies and BMS Manpower.
The awards presentation took place soon after the final where Raneez Sheriff, Head of Marketing and Business Strategies of NoLimit, the main sponsor graced the occasion as chief guest. He presented the champion’s trophy to Zahira captain M.H.M. Hafeel as well as other individual award winners. The President of Zahira Past Prefects’ Association Zaniffer Rameez, Project Chairman Ahsan Munaf also presented certificates and medals to the winners of the tournament, which was held for the 16th occasion.
