UK’s Toby Read claims ‘Race The Pearl’
Toby Read from the United Kingdom dominated the 24-hour solo and was adjudged the winner, while Pippa Langan also from United Kingdom was adjudged as the best female rider at the fifth edition of ‘Race The Pearl’ ultra-endurance cycle race. Kelani Cycling won the best team’s award.
Professional cyclists, three from France, two from the United Kingdom, one from the Unite States of America and five from Sri Lanka did compete for the top of the podium, while 50 cyclists partook on the relay style race from different legs of the 24-hour race. The race flagged off on November 5 from Point Pedro in Jaffna and finished at Point Dondra in Matara after 24 hours of nonstop cycling.
The international race is included as a qualifier for the upcoming RAMM (Race Across America), which covers over 4,800kms from the west coast to the east coast of the United States of America. At this year’s ‘Race the Pearl’ 60 cyclist competed in the 600-kilometre ultra-endurance race.
