Govt. to provide internet to more than 1500 rural schools next year
The Government is planning to provide internet facilities to more than 1500 schools in rural areas within the coming year.
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said a proposal has already been handed over to the Microsoft Company to provide the required software and related material for the educational institutions.
He said the Ministry has appealed to back up Information Technology expansion projects in Sri Lanka for schools and higher educational institutions.
Minister Premajayantha said schools in remote areas will be given prominence under this project.
During the Budget speech presented on November 14, President Ranil Wickremesinghe also spelled out the plans to provide internet facilities to rural schools.
He said free internet facilities to 1000 junior and senior secondary schools located in remote areas will be facilitated with the contribution of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and private companies and institutions under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. -DWI-
