Helping hand from Indira Cancer Trust
“It’s a sad reality that only a small percentage of women in Sri Lanka are routinely performing self-examinations; breast cancer is curable if detected early,” said Dr. Lanka Jayasuriya, Chairperson of the Indira Cancer Trust.
October being international breast cancer awareness month, the Trust carried out multiple projects to raise awareness on breast cancer and assist patients with cancer. The country’s first mastectomy bra was launched on October 19 in collaboration with several partners including the Sri Lanka Society of Breast Surgeons, Roshan Mahanama Trust, Christell Luxury Wellness and Bobby International. The bra is distributed free by the Trust and will be available at the Trust as well as selected hospitals throughout the country through sponsorship by Christell Luxury Wellness.
The Tust also collaborated with Shangri- La Colombo which turned pink in October in support of breast cancer awareness month with pink decor and offerings like a special pink afternoon tea and pink cocktails, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to Indira Cancer Trust. An awareness programme was also held at the hotel.
